Test Laifen Wave: the connected toothbrush that'll make you smile!

It's been a while since I last tested a connected toothbrush. But I fell in love with the Laifen Wave, which I discovered at IFA last September. Its design and packaging were worthy of an Apple product. I've been testing it for several months now, and I have to admit that it has brilliantly replaced my old Oclean model. Let me tell you more about it…

Unpacking sets the tone

The packaging is uncluttered, worthy of an Apple product. And, it must be said, in the image of the product it contains.

As soon as you open the box, you're seduced by the Laifen Wave's minimalist, elegant design. The toothbrush is available in three finishes: ABS (€79.99), aluminum (€89.99), stainless steel (€99.99), and titanium (€159.99). I got my hands on the stainless steel model, and what class! Well, it doesn't make it easy to take photos for this test, since it reacts like a real mirror :p Hard to do it justice, but it's really very pretty.

The box contains the toothbrush, three different brush heads, a magnetic charger and a user manual. Everything is well arranged and gives an immediate impression of quality.

The Laifen Wave comes with three brush heads, each with its own speciality. The grey “Gum Care” head, with its flat surface and soft bristles, offers gentle cleaning – perfect for people with sensitive teeth and gums. The blue “Super Clean” head features an ingenious V-shape that follows the contours of the teeth, allowing it to reach interdental spaces efficiently. As for the purple “Ultra-Whitening” head, its W-shaped design and firmer bristles are optimized for high-speed, intensive enamel polishing (a veritable dental arsenal that covers every need!).

The Laifen Wave's dimensions are very compact: 14.3 cm high, 2.8 cm wide and 3.2 cm deep, it offers a natural, comfortable grip. In terms of weight, the ABS model is light at 135 grams, while the aluminum and stainless steel versions weigh in at a more premium 163 grams (which gives it a much appreciated feeling of sturdiness).

Technology that makes all the difference

The Laifen Wave is no slouch when it comes to performance. It features an exclusive servomechanism that combines 60° oscillations and no less than 66,000 vibrations per minute. That's three times more powerful than most models on the market!

The companion app is particularly well thought-out, allowing you to personalize your experience with surgical precision, via a Bluetooth connection with the toothbrush.

Vibration intensity, oscillation range and speed can be adjusted to ten different levels. Never before seen on a toothbrush in this price range!

There are of course the 3 modes available on the toothbrush, but each parameter can be adjusted as desired in the app. It's also possible to set the brushing time (up to 5min), and activate the zone change reminder, manifested by a special little vibration.

In use: new sensations

The first few days of use take a little getting used to. The power of the brush can be surprising, and you need to learn to master this new brushing motion. But once this period is over, you'll be delighted! Teeth are impeccably clean, gums are respected, and the feeling of freshness lasts all day long. Personally, I use the second power setting, as the third is too strong for me. Brushing has to be effective, but still pleasant :)

The brush heads of the Laifen Wave have been designed with particular attention to detail. With their compact dimensions (7.9 cm high, 2 cm long and 1.1 cm wide), they slip easily into every nook and cranny of the mouth. An ingenious wear indicator system gradually fades the color of the bristles, letting you know when it's time to change the brush after 90 days. The real innovation lies in their dynamic balancing system: a metal counterweight integrated into the back of each head neutralizes motor vibrations. This technical feat not only ensures more precise oscillations, but also remarkably quiet operation, at just 55 dB.

The Laifen Wave's sleek design conceals an intelligently thought-out user interface, articulated around a single capacitive ON/OFF button and 6 informative LEDs.

Brushing intensity is indicated by three LEDs at the top: a single LED for gentle mode (level 1), two LEDs for thorough cleaning (level 2), and all three LEDs for whitening mode (level 3). Via the app, you can even access a fourth “intense” level indicated by the illumination of the left and right LEDs.

Brush control is intuitive: a short press to turn it on or off, two successive presses to change mode, and a 2-second long press to activate airplane mode (which conveniently deactivates touch sensitivity during your travels).

Autonomy is clearly visible thanks to a dedicated LED indicator: reassuring green between 50 and 100%, warning yellow between 20 and 50%, alert red between 10 and 20%, and flashing red below 10%. During charging, the indicator turns solid green only when the battery is full.

Autonomy is impressive: 30 days of use on a single charge. You can travel without worry. In fact, it accompanied me for 15 days to the US for CES, so I didn't have to bother with the charger.

The Laifen Wave's charging system has been particularly well thought out. Its sturdy braided cable incorporates a magnetic connection that attaches to the three studs on the underside of the brush.

On one side, there's a USB connector that plugs into the supplied 5V-1A adapter, and on the other, the magnetic tip. This ingenious solution eliminates any risk of water infiltration, as there are no openings on the brush body, which is why it is IPX7 certified.

Recharging is child's play: simply line up the magnets and wait 2.5 hours, then enjoy a generous 30-day autonomy.

The integrated airplane mode is a particularly clever feature for globetrotters. Simply press and hold the button, and the brush is ready to take to the skies without the risk of accidentally starting up in your luggage.

The final verdict

The Laifen Wave achieves the feat of offering performance worthy of top-of-the-range models at a much more affordable price. Its elegant design, advanced technology and well-thought-out application make it an excellent alternative to traditional brands.

Of course, there are a few small areas for improvement, such as the app, which could offer even more analyses to give us feedback on the quality of our brushing. But these details in no way detract from the fundamental qualities of this connected toothbrush, which has found its place in my bathroom.

For those looking to improve their oral hygiene with style and technology, the Laifen Wave represents an excellent investment. It proves that it's possible to innovate in a well-established market, and that's worth a bright smile!
