Sunology launches its solar battery!

For several weeks, Sunology, now well-known for its Plug&Play solar station, which allows you to reduce your electricity bill in 2 minutes thanks to a photovoltaic panel, has been teasing the release of its new solar battery, capable of absorbing excess photovoltaic production and reinjecting it into your home when needed. The solution is now available and available for sale! Sunology Battery: An Original Hybrid SolutionThe solution presented by Sunology will surprise many, as the manufacturer is offering a hybrid solution, and not just an energy storage battery as one might expect. Sunology has actually partnered with another French company, Lancey. A company I mentioned in 2017 when I was still covering CES for Domadoo, since this startup offered a radiator with an integrated battery. The principle was simple: the radiator stored electricity in its battery during off-peak hours, then used it to heat the house during peak hours. This way, the heater operated at its maximum capacity while using the lowest-cost electricity.

This partnership between Lancey and Sunology will allow you to optimize your electricity bill by always using the cheapest electricity: first, the surplus photovoltaic energy produced by the solar station (Sunology or another, for that matter), then by using electricity at the off-peak rate.

A Plug&Play Solar Battery As with its solar station, Sunology wanted a Plug&Play solution, capable of operating in 2 minutes. Simply plug the Lancey battery into an electrical outlet. Since this battery also acts as a radiator, it is also possible to install it as a replacement for an existing radiator, in which case, it requires a direct electrical connection.From there, the Lancey battery will be able to store the excess photovoltaic production from the Sunology Play station. It couldn't be simpler: the solar station plugs into an electrical outlet, just like this battery. No difficult assembly, no need for professional help. But as they say, it's difficult to create an easy solution. And this battery is the result of extensive research, protected by nine patents, and awarded multiple awards.Of course, storing energy is great. But then you have to be able to use it. Here again, it's very simple: through the same outlet that connects it to the grid for charging, this battery is able to release the stored electricity to power the home, thanks to its integrated hybrid microinverter.

This Lancey battery also features a powerful predictive control algorithm, allowing it to optimize your electricity bill. Via a small box connected to the Linky meter's teleinfo terminals (provided), the battery is able to know when electricity is cheapest. It also uses various information such as weather forecasts. It will thus:

charge itself using surplus solar production if available

charge itself during off-peak hours if necessary

Ultimately, it uses this electricity when it costs the most (peak hours) and thus save on your bill. There is no longer any free reinjection into the general grid; you can consume 100% of your solar production!

A smart radiator

As mentioned above, this solution also includes a high-end radiator, packed with sensors. Air quality (VOCs, CO2), presence detector, humidity level, brightness, and ambient temperature: no fewer than 6 sensors continuously calculate the ideal temperature and heating power.

Its self-learning system and its modulating heating power, in power steps (100W, 650W, 1200W), provide exceptional performance and savings of up to 35% compared to a conventional electric convector of the same power.

• This intelligent management system is combined with a heating element with a tempered glass infrared radiant front, making it a very high-end radiator, awarded the 3-star “oeil” label.
• A Stackable Solution

In terms of heating power, this Lancey radiator is rated for a room of approximately 25m². It will therefore be possible to install several in the same room depending on the surface area to be heated.

This stacking of radiators will also increase the storage power. With a “only” 800W battery, this may not be enough for some. This autonomy is dictated by the LFP technology used, but also by the weight, the space occupied, and of course, the cost. Installing multiple Lancey radiators will increase your storage capacity, further optimizing your electricity bill.

Unfortunately, the price is the biggest drawback, with a reported price of €2,149. That's almost twice the price of an Ecoflow Delta 2 battery, which offers 1000W of autonomy. But it doesn't offer the automatic charging intelligence and radiator function of the Sunology/Lancey system. I hope to be able to offer you a more detailed review soon so that I can form a more complete opinion. Personally, I have mixed feelings at the moment: it's a high price for relatively low storage power, especially if you already have a heating system. This solution will therefore only be of real interest to people who need to replace their current radiator and want to store their excess solar energy. After the manufacturer's teaser, many were expecting a battery with a good capacity, with a price close to what Ecoflow or Bluetti offer, for example.
