Test EcoFlow Delta Pro 3: the monster power station for every situation!

Ah,energy autonomy! As you know, I've been passionate about this subject for years, and it's never been more relevant than it is today. So when EcoFlow asked me to test their latest model, the Ecoflow Delta Pro 3, I jumped at the chance. This giant 4 kWh battery promises to do wonders: power an entire house, recharge at lightning speed, and operate in near-total silence. But what about the real thing? After two months of intensive use, I can finally give you my full verdict.

Unpacking the EcoFlow Delta Pro 3 battery

Unpacking the Delta Pro 3 is a… muscular experience! This model weighs a colossal 51.5 kg. There's no chance of the carrier throwing the box over the fence…

Here's a tip: open the box from the bottom, and simply remove it from the top. Much simpler than trying to get those 51 kg out the top ;-)

Inside, everything is perfectly protected with thick foam panels:

In the box are the essentials: the energy station itself, an AC charging cable, two handle protectors and the quick-start and safety guides. Nothing superfluous, but everything necessary is there.

This portable power station measures 69.3 × 34.1 × 41 cm and weighs 51.5 kg. That's a long way from a small battery you can slip into your backpack! Fortunately, EcoFlow has been clever enough to equip its jewel with sturdy wheels and a telescopic handle that stows discreetly under the Schuko sockets on the front, allowing the battery to be wheeled around like a suitcase. It's that much easier!

The front panel is particularly well thought-out, with :

  • 4 Schuko sockets delivering a constant power of 3680W
  • 2 USB-C ports capable of delivering up to 100W each
  • 2 USB-A ports offering 18W of power

A superb LED display completes the package, showing in real time all essential information on battery status, input/output power and estimated charge times.

The sides have not been forgotten, with a 16A socket for recharging electric vehicles (hidden behind a protective flap).

On the opposite side are other connectors, notably for connecting a remote control screen.

At the rear, you'll find all the input ports for recharging the battery, including the possibility of connecting it directly to an electric car charging station (rather clever!).

This is also where you'll find the mains charging socket, the input for solar panels (up to 2600w!), as well as two sockets for connecting auxiliary batteries or one (or even two) Powerstreams.

All sockets are protected by a flap that retracts directly inside to leave the desired socket freely accessible.

The quality of the workmanship is top-notch, with particular attention to detail. While the main body is IP20 certified (for indoor use), the battery pack is IP65 certified, making it water and dust resistant. It's solid!

The overall impression is one of robustness and reliability, perfectly in keeping with the device's high-end positioning. And with its 4096 Wh capacity, expandable up to 12 kWh via additional batteries, you can feel you're dealing with professional equipment built to last.

Installation and start-up: no problem!

First piece of good news: the Delta Pro 3 arrives pre-charged to around 30% of its capacity. No need to wait hours before you can start playing with it! Basic installation is child's play: plug in, press the main power button, and off you go. The lights come on, the screen lights up, and the beast purrs softly (when I say softly, I mean really softly – the noise level doesn't exceed 30 dB at less than 2000w power).

The EcoFlow app (available on iOS and Android) is the real control tower of your Delta Pro 3. Once downloaded and installed, Bluetooth connection is instantaneous. The interface is clear, modern and fully translated into French! You can navigate intuitively through the various menus, and the possibilities are truly impressive.

On launch, the battery is automatically detected. All you have to do is indicate the Wifi network you want to reach, and the battery is available anywhere, even on the other side of the world.

As is often the case with connected objects, an update will be offered to improve performance:

The real-time monitoring section enables you to monitor :

  • input and output power in watts
  • Battery charge level
  • Time remaining before full charge or discharge
  • Temperature of various components

But what really blew me away were the advanced customization options:

Intelligent charging mode
You can program specific time slots for recharging, ideal for taking advantage of off-peak hours or your solar production. (A real plus for optimizing your electricity bill!)

Power management
The application lets you adjust the maximum power output, set priorities between different outlets, and even create personalized usage scenarios.

Remote monitoring
Via Wi-Fi, you can control your Delta Pro 3 from anywhere in the world. Handy for checking the status of your system when you're on vacation!

The system features a number of built-in protections:

  • Overload protection
  • Short-circuit protection
  • Against overheating
  • Against deep discharge

The app alerts you immediately in the event of a problem, with customizable push notifications. And for the more anxious, a “vacation” mode lets you put the battery into hibernation while keeping an eye on it remotely.

Feedback: impressive versatility

The Delta Pro 3 shines in its versatility, adapting to a multitude of situations. At home, it quickly becomes indispensable: imagine being able to run your American fridge for over 11 hours in the event of a power cut, or simultaneously use your washing machine and tumble dryer without a care in the world. The security of your home is assured, as it maintains your Internet connection, surveillance cameras and alarm system without interruption.

For energy-hungry equipment, it also works wonders. An 800W pool pump or automatic sprinkler system will run without a hitch, and even a 3-ton air conditioner can run for 2-3 hours. Particularly reassuring during heatwaves!

Professionals also benefit. On a construction site, it can easily power a 2000W circular saw or an 800W drill. Nomadic workers can set up a real mobile office with computers, printers and lighting. Photographers and videographers particularly appreciate its reliability for outdoor shoots, while exhibitors can power their entire booth at a trade show.

Outdoors, the Delta Pro 3 reveals its full potential. It transforms a converted van into a small apartment complete with fridge, hob and microwave. For outdoor events, it can handle both a 2000W electric barbecue and a full sound system. Coffee enthusiasts can even plug in a 2700W professional coffee machine for outdoor events!

Geeks are not to be outdone: the battery provides effective protection for a gaming setup complete with powerful PC and multiple screens. It also secures a homelab with servers and network equipment, or maintains a complete home automation installation for long hours. I personally tested its capacity during a prolonged power cut: my entire office with 42″ screen, PC, router, plus refrigerator and internet box ran for over 8 hours without the slightest interruption!

Its 4000W power output means it can even be used for more demanding applications, such as starting up a well pump or powering an electric oven. Craftsmen particularly appreciate its ability to run professional workshop tools, transforming any space into a veritable mobile workshop.

In short, with this level of power, it can meet a wide range of needs. Only its weight will limit its transport, as it's not a battery you can just pop in your backpack before setting off: there are a few logistics to consider :p

Recharging is one of this battery's strong points. Thanks to X-Stream technology, it reaches 80% of its capacity in barely an hour. What's more, by combining several power sources, you can achieve a maximum charging power of 7000W!

Different charging options are available:

  • Standard mains (230V)
  • Via solar panels
  • At an electric vehicle charging station
  • Via a compatible smart generator

The choice is yours!

While this battery can work perfectly well on its own, combining the Ecoflow Delta Pro 3 with the PowerStream system creates a complete energy management solution for your home.

The PowerStream system connects to one of the extension ports.

You can connect two auxiliary batteries, one Powerstream + one auxiliary battery, or 2 Powerstreams for even more output power (up to 1600 W output).

I refer you to our review of the PowerStream to find out more. To cut a long story short, PowerStream enables the battery to automatically manage its solar production and storage, and above all its injection into the home's electrical circuit. So there's no need for a source inverter to power the house, as the PowerStream will automatically inject energy from the solar panels or the battery to power the home (the source inverter will only be of use in the event of a total power cut, as in this case the PowerStream will no longer be able to inject – it's a compulsory safety measure).

Better still: for some time now, EcoFlow has been compatible with Shelly devices, as Zendure or Anker already are, for example. The Shelly module installed in your electrical panel analyzes your energy needs in real time. Once added to the Ecoflow application, you simply select it in the household energy management system:

This intelligence allows you to optimize the use of solar energy by injecting only the quantity you need into your home network. This is a real game-changer when it comes to optimizing your solar energy consumption!

For EDF Tempo customers like me, EcoFlow Delta Pro 3 also becomes particularly attractive on red days, when the price per kWh can reach €0.7562. By storing energy during off-peak hours or via your solar panels, you can considerably reduce your electricity bill during these critical periods.

At the moment, with the sun not shining, I'm recharging the battery during off-peak hours, so that it can give me back this energy during peak hours. On red days, this is particularly practical, as we can continue to live “normally” without blowing up the bill. Here's an example: the water heater ran overnight, as did the dishwasher, charging the electric car and the Delta Pro 3. All my consumption was during off-peak hours. During the day, I hardly use any electricity at all, despite the fact that two of us work at home with various electrical appliances. The battery reinjects the electricity it has stored into the household, according to its needs. As a result, the red day has virtually no impact on our electricity bill.

One of the most remarkable aspects is its exceptionally low noise level: less than 30 dB in normal operation, the equivalent of a whisper. This discretion means it can be used anywhere in the house without being disturbed. In fact, it's placed in my office, where the electrical panel is also located, and I can't hear it at all.

The LFP (Lithium-Fer-Phosphate) technology used here guarantees an impressive lifespan, with over 4000 cycles before reaching 80% of its initial capacity. In daily use, this represents over 10 years of use before a noticeable drop in performance is noticed.

Finally, EcoFlow has thought of geeks like me: the Delta Pro 3 integrates perfectly into a home automation ecosystem via its open API. I was able to connect it to my Home Assistant system in just a few minutes, enabling me to create automations based on load level or power consumption, to further optimize my power consumption. I'll come back to this in more detail in a future guide.

Conclusion: an energy revolution at home

After two months of intensive use, the Delta Pro 3 has won me over completely. Admittedly, with a price tag of €3299, the initial investment is substantial. But when you consider the savings (notably on a Tempo subscription), the peace of mind it brings (in the event of prolonged power cuts, which are frequent where I live) and its exceptional durability, the investment makes perfect sense.

The Delta Pro 3 is much more than just a battery: it's a veritable domestic energy powerhouse, paving the way towards greater energy autonomy. It's the perfect answer to today's challenges of energy transition and controlling electricity consumption.

Whether you're looking for a reliable, scalable energy storage solution to optimize your solar installation, intelligently manage your consumption during low-rate periods, or simply provide a high-performance backup solution, the Delta Pro 3 is a must-have on the market.

In short, despite its price tag, which may turn some people off, the Delta Pro 3 represents a sound investment for anyone wishing to take control of their energy consumption. It perfectly embodies what domestic energy storage should be: powerful, intelligent and easy to use.
