Some time ago I introduced you to the Moonstone bathroom mat, designed by a French company that makes many things based on diatomite, a rock capable of absorbing and retaining moisture while remaining dry to the touch. A particularly interesting material to make a bath mat, for example! Being made from a stone, this mat came in the form of a rigid plate, but also fragile, since it could break if it fell. The company has thus developed a flexible version of this mat, which now exists in an XL version, particularly suitable for Italian showers, bathtubs, facilities for people with reduced mobility, etc.
What is diatomite?
Diatomite, also called diatomaceous earth, is a sedimentary rock of siliceous origin, resulting from the accumulation of fossils of microscopic algae, diatoms. Composed of silicon dioxide, it has an exceptional porous structure that allows it to absorb and retain moisture while remaining dry to the touch. These characteristics make it a popular material for many household products, particularly in the manufacture of bathroom mats. Thanks to its ability to quickly absorb large quantities of water and promote rapid evaporation, it always keeps surfaces dry. In addition to its non-slip aspect, diatomite offers natural antibacterial properties, limiting the proliferation of bacteria and mold, which helps maintain a healthy and safe environment, particularly in humid areas such as the bathroom.
As we have already mentioned, not drying your feet properly after a shower can cause several inconveniences. The moisture left on the skin creates an ideal breeding ground for fungi, increasing the risk of infections such as athlete's foot. This moisture combined with heat also promotes the growth of bacteria, often the cause of bad odors. In addition to this, walking with feet that are still wet can cause irritation, blisters and a general feeling of discomfort. Using a diatomite bathroom mat solves these problems by ensuring quick and efficient drying of the feet, thus offering greater comfort and improved hygiene on a daily basis.
Discovery of the Moonstone XL bath mat
This time the mat being much less fragile, the Moonstone XL bath mat arrived rolled up! It exists in cloud gray and storm gray versions, gray being the dominant color of diatomite.

This time we have a more “classic”, flexible, and non-slip mat.

To achieve this result, the mat is this time made up of several layers:
- Surface: Nappa leather for rapid water penetration
- Comfort: Soft and fluffy sponge
- Absorption: Diatomite layer for ultra-fast drying
- Base: Non-slip rubber for unmatched stability
This XL version measures 1.20m by 50cm, which can be particularly practical for covering a large area in the bathroom.

For example, in my home it takes up the entire front of the shower, which absorbs the water as it comes out of it, without watering the floor, which also avoids the risk of slipping.

The mat is perfectly refined. Only the company logo is marked in one corner.

This diatomite mat comes with a small maintenance guide. Before first use, just wipe the mat with a damp sponge. This will remove any remaining rock dust.

After that, you're good to go! Just place it at the end of the shower or bathtub. Unlike the rigid version, which offered a “hard” and slightly cold surface, this XL version is “softer”. But above all, it continues to dry very quickly! A little less than the rigid version, of course, because the concentration of diatomite is lower. But it still dries very, very quickly.
This Moonstone diatomite bathroom mat is incredibly practical, especially for showers in a row, like here with five people where everyone goes after the other. Usually, the last ones end up with an unpleasant wet mat, but with the Moonstone, no more worries: it stays dry between each pass. Thanks to its high absorption capacity, this mat allows water to quickly infiltrate, thus providing effective drying of the feet as soon as you get out of the shower. In a few seconds, the feet are dry, offering not only immediate comfort but also benefits for their health.

The Moonstone diatomite bath mat combines efficiency and ease of maintenance. Unlike fabric mats, which require frequent washing and can accumulate bacteria, the diatomite mat can be simply cleaned with a sponge or damp cloth. Its minimal maintenance makes it a practical and hygienic solution, ideal for the bathroom.
This XL diatomite mat is sold for €69, a reasonable price for a large mat, which should last several years without any problem, and which provides absorbent and antibacterial properties very interesting for a bathroom!
Many other accessories available
The manufacturer has become an expert in the use of diatomite. It thus offers many other accessories for the home, whether for the bathroom, the kitchen, or even pets. A diatomite mat will indeed be very practical to mount under the dog's bowl to absorb water splashes and disinfect the area.

We particularly liked the model Meloa diatomite shoe:

These are two small diatomite pads, this time very rigid, designed to be placed in shoes.

Knowing the properties of diatomite, can you guess its interest? Dry shoes and kill bacteria, very present in shoes, especially sports shoes where we sweat a lot. This will prevent bad odors. Simply slide these pads into the shoes when you take them off, and let the magic happen.

In partnership with Moonstone, we are pleased to offer you two products via a competition.
The first winner will win a soft XL diatomite mat, storm gray color
- The second will win a kit of two shoe pads
- To participate it's very simple: just identify yourself on the competition below, and complete the tasks indicated. The more tasks you complete, the more chances you have of being drawn. The competition will end on Sunday, November 10 at midnight. The draw will take place on Tuesday, November 12 during the day.
Good luck to all!
