Fogo, the new generation, Matter-compatible radiator, awarded at #CES2023

France was once again the most represented country at CES 2023 (excluding the US, of course). It must be said that we have many innovative companies in our little country. This is further evidenced by Fogo, a company based near Lille, which presented a new-generation radiator, both in its composition and its technology, compatible with Matter, and which was awarded an Innovation Award by the CTA! It must be said that the promise is enticing, since the company aims to provide “a new experience of ecological, instant, and ultimate heat”!Specific heating materialsThe radiators we find today all look more or less the same. Fogo has completely redesigned everything, from the materials used to the technology, to revolutionize the world of electric radiators. The manufacturer has chosen an ultra-high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UPFC) stone. This concrete, produced by Lafarge from recycled aggregates and enriched with organic fiber, provides comfortable heat. This BFHUP offers several advantages:

very good thermal inertia, comparable to that of marble

a low thickness of only 8mm, which allows for the design of a very thin radiator. The 100x60cm model, for example, is only 5.5cm thick and weighs 25kg

high customization: these panels can be produced with custom colors, shapes, and patterns if required.

  • Various colors and patterns are available
  • The electrical resistance is made of graphene (a material derived from graphite), which offers very interesting mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties for this type of application, and therefore replaces the metal commonly used.
  • The Fogo team worked for two years to select the right materials and create an architecture that optimizes airflow and thus ensures optimal comfort. The result is protected by several patents.

Sensors coupled with artificial intelligence

The Fogo radiator incorporates numerous sensors:

a presence sensor (which is not triggered by the passage of a pet),

onboard temperature sensors,

humidity sensor,

  • air quality sensor
  • Thanks to these sensors, the radiator is able to better understand its environment. Thus, coupled with artificial intelligence and collected data (such as weather forecasts), the Fogo is able to optimize heating to limit power consumption to what is strictly necessary. The goal is for this radiator to be as autonomous as possible, regulating heating without any user intervention.
  • Fogo, the Matter-compatible radiator
  • The Fogo radiator communicates via Wi-Fi, Thread, or Bluetooth, with Matter compatibility, of course, to be ready for the future. The user can therefore use the control mode they prefer.

For a sleek design, the manufacturer has chosen not to integrate a screen into this radiator. It only has a power button. Control is therefore done via a mobile app or a Matter-compatible home automation system (which, of course, includes voice assistants).

This smart radiator is available for pre-order now on the Fogo website, with prices starting at €1,990 for the 1000W “Pure” model.
