While home automation boxes and Wi-Fi access points have shrunk considerably, these devices still take up a lot of space on a table or shelf. Danish startup Evvr Home Automation, founded in 2021, has found a solution: combine the two and place the resulting device in your wall! The Evvr Hub is born!
Evvr Hub: the home automation box that integrates into the wall
The Evvr Hub is designed to be mounted inside a standard electrical box, where it will blend into the wall, thanks to its dimensions of only 120 x 86 x 10 mm. Part of the hub protrudes, but only by 10 mm.

If you have an Ethernet connection in the walls of your home, the back of the hub is equipped with an RJ45 port, allowing you to connect it directly to your router. If not, you can connect the hub to your router via Wi-Fi (both 2.4 and 5 GHz networks are supported). Power over Ethernet (POE) is also provided via this Ethernet connection, which is very convenient. The box also has an RS485 port.

The Evvr Hub will also function as a Wi-Fi 6 access point to extend your wireless network, but this feature can be disabled if you already have a mesh Wi-Fi network in your home. The hub can be controlled via the company's app, which is available for iOS and Android.

Besides Wi-Fi, the Evvr Hub supports all major smart home standards, including Bluetooth, Zigbee, and Z-Wave. The system is already compatible with a multitude of devices and well-known brands (see list here): Aeotec, Aqara, Broadlink, Fibaro, Heiman, Orvibo, Philips, Somfy, Zipato, Zooz, etc.A system of plugins allows you to add functionalities, a bit like what you find on Jeedom for example, and an SDK is available for developers. The Evvr Hub is also compatible with Alexa, Google Home and Siri assistants for voice control. The company also plans to begin development of Matter support this summer, with certification planned for fall 2023.
Multiple Evvr Hubs can be easily linked together to cover a reliable wireless connection over a larger area. Practical for very large homes or commercial spaces.

Important detail: all data is stored locally, without the cloud.
To start, the Evvr Hub will be sold only to commercial customers, but the company hopes to offer the device to “do-it-yourself” consumers by the end of 2023.
This controller for the smart home certainly won over the jury of the CES Innovation Awards since it won a prize in the Smart Home category. We will undoubtedly come back to it in a while, especially since the company offers very nice products, like the
Evvr Pad S
, which is in fact a wall-mounted home automation box with a touch screen, with a very nice look: Source:
